Alex LifesonAlexander Zivojinovich "Alex" Lifeson
b. August 27, 1953
British Columbia, Canada

Alex Lifeson founded Rush in the summer of 1968. Musically, Rush has altered its sound dramatically over the years. Beginning in the vein of blues-inspired hard rock on their debut album to styles encompassing progressive rock, Rush’s lyrics involve extensive story telling anthems on albums such as Hemispheres and 2112. Rush has been awarded twenty-three gold and fourteen platinum records, making them one of the best-selling rock bands in history. These statistics place Rush fifth behind The Beatles, The Rolling Stones, KISS and Aerosmith for the most consecutive gold and platinum albums by a rock band.

Instrumentally, Lifeson is regarded as a master guitarist, a pioneer of electronic effects and chord structures. Alex is considered a “searcher”, always looking to better his world famous tone. Lifeson has played primarily Gibson, Fenders, and PRS guitars during different eras. In concert Alex uses a MIDI controller to trigger sounds from digital samplers, with his feet so he can keep his hands on his guitar.
